The sounds of the harp add a special touch to any event. Catherine enjoys providing this service to her clients in a friendly and organized manner. She works closely with brides and grooms to select the perfect repertoire for each unique ceremony and strives to make your event planning as relaxed as possible. With years of experience in a variety of venues, Catherine welcomes the opportunity to make your event a memorable one.

Alongside her work as a harpist in various symphony orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, Catherine has been an active freelance harpist as well, playing numerous weddings, events and church services wherever she may be.

Catherine began playing harp at the age of 12, at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Since then, she has held Principal Harp positions with the Florida West Coast Symphony, Yucatan Symphony Orchestra in Mexico, Singapore Symphony and Dayton Philharmonic, as well as Assistant Principal Harp with the Sao Paulo State Symphony in Brazil. She made her debut with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 2001, playing the Harp Concerto by Ginastera. As a soloist, Catherine has performed with the Doctors Orchestra of Houston, Shepherd School Symphony, the Kingsport Orchestra, and the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra. Catherine appears on a New World Records release of a world premiere performance of music by John Luther Adams, and has also performed his solo harp music at the 2006 National Harp Conference.

Catherine holds a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory and a Masters degree from Rice University. Her teachers include Houston Symphony harpist Paula Page, recording artist Yolanda Kondonassis, and the grande dame of harp, Alice Chalifoux.

"I have had the opportunity to hear Catherine Barrett on two occasions- once during a performance of Mahler's 2nd Symphony and once during a home performance. Her playing was exquisite. She plays with great feeling, from classical to contemporary. Hearing her is like listening to an angel before the throne of God."
 -Sr. Monica Paul, client

"Thank you very much for the beautiful music- adding that 'special touch' at the brunch."

"... The more difficult task of the harpist is creating the illusion of legato line and lyrical melody from sound that begins to die the moment a string is plucked. Ms. Barrett did that impressively, It was easy to be caught up by the way she made Ginastera's exotic, driving rhythms dance. It was far more rewarding to hear how well she provided subtle shape and shadings in his evocative, expressive music."
 -Charles Ward, Houston Chronicle
